On Saturday, August 25, 2007, the Milton Cross Country team hosted its first home meet against other high schools on their home cross country course. It was a pleasure to host the Marist War Eagles and the Blessed Trinity Titans as both schools brought their strong programs to challenge the Milton Eagles in this early season meet.

Varsity Girls
Right off the bat, the Blessed Trinity Titans showed their strength as their girls looked strong and stayed up front the entire race. The Lady Eagles kept it close for most of the race but the Titans were way too strong and prevailed over Milton. The Lady Eagles did score a strong 2nd besting the War Eagles of Marist by a good margin. Leading Milton was freshman Lauren Jones who finished 2nd to multi-state champion Caroline Kirk of Blessed Trinity (who broke Lauren’s course record by over 2 minutes). Scorers for Milton included Chelsea Weiermiller (6th), Jamie Chandler (9th), Stephanie Butzer (13th) and Cori Deutsch (14th).

JV Girls
The JV Lady Eagles had their hands full with a deep and talented program from Marist. Milton kept it close but the War Eagles prevailed. Leading Milton were strong performances by Monique Rollocks, Samantha Rate and Melissa Tillitski. Closing out the scoring for the Lady Eagles were Olivia Tusa who continues to impress and the resurgent Maddie Cook.

Varsity Boys
In a tough early test for the highly touted Eagles, the Titans of Blessed Trinity came to race and they showed it! Tyler Tomy led the way for Milton with his overall win and new course record (18:43)!! Blessed Trinity and Marist then split up the Eagle pack and by doing so gave the Titans (ranked #2 in AAA) a 10-point meet win. Milton’s up front presence kept Marist at bay and the Eagles finished as the runner’s up. Strong performances by Christian Scholz (3rd) and Ryan Price (7th) made the difference in beating the War Eagles of Marist. Rounding out the scorers for Milton were the fast improving Alex Keeter (13th) and Seth Tomy (17th).

JV Boys
Milton’s depth and strength in numbers proved itself as the JV boys scored a perfect 15 points to outdistance Marist. Blessed Trinity did not field a complete team of JV boys. Leading the way for the Eagles was Brandon Halls followed immediately by Brian Parsons, Fraser Reade, Jody Hirschi and Andrew Funari.

The Milton cross country teams travel to Berry College this weekend for the Clara Bowl Invitational. Known as one of the largest early season meets, the Clara Bowl meet will host close to 3000 runners from almost 100+ schools from Georgia, Alabama & Tennessee.
