2006 Great American

The Milton Cross Country team returned to the Great American Cross Country festival on September 23rd after a long absence and came a way with some impressive results.
The festival, now being hosted by Hoover HS in Birmingham, AL, provided a wonderful but tough course and Milton showed it was up for the challenge!

The varsity lady Eagles were never headed as they went on to WIN the White Invitational division with a low score of 70 points to defeat a field of 11 schools. Led by the strong front running of Megan Hirschi (7th), Sarah Foreman (14th) and Jamie Chandler (21st) Milton was in command early. Milton’s team win also came with strong performances by the entire team: Stephanie Butzer (27th), Susannah Hardy (28th), Maddie Cook (30th) and Laura Randall (32nd).

The varsity boys team ran a strong race and finished a close 2nd! out of 16 schools in the White Invitational division. Led by Christian Scholz exciting come from behind 2nd place finish, Milton put 3 runners in the top-20 overall finishing positions. Strong and gutsy performances were also turned in by Tyler Tomy (7th), Mitchell Foley (15th) and Ryan Price (29th).

Both junior varsity races ending up being the most competitive fields the Milton Eagles had faced all season. With schools from all over the southeast and eastern US entered, the competition for the JV team was stout!

Led by Cori Deutsch’s 36th place, Milton finished 12th out of 25 teams! Other Lady Eagles that ran strong included Chelsea Weiermiller (40th) and MC Durham (78th). There were 178 finishers in the JV girls race.

Milton’s Junior Varsity boy’s team had similar results. A very strong performance by senior Drew Norris (49th) paced the Eagles to a 15th place team finish out of 27 schools. Milton’s team finish was helped out by Curt Ellison (72nd) & Josh Witkowski (78th).

The Milton Cross Country teams travel to the GA International Horse Park in Conyers, GA for the Aubrae Gunderson (Patriot) Invitational next weekend where the Eagles have had much success in the past few years.
