2006 Season Highlights

BOYS
The Milton boy’s 2006 season was one of tremendous success. Strong and dominate team wins came at Sweetapple, Ray Miller and Fulton County. Runner-up performances came at Clemson, Great American and Coach Wood. But the highlight of the season was the impressive 3rd place at the Region 6-AAAAA meet (where a year ago we were 6th) qualifying the boy’s to the state meet where they ran the best team race since 2004 and garnered 7th place and defeating many previously top-10 ranked teams in the process. With no seniors on this team 2007 looks to be the year for the Milton boy’s team to do something special and with the advances since the 2005 team, anything is possible.

GIRLS
The 2006 Milton Girl’s cross country team had a very successful season. With senior leadership, strong running from returning underclassmen and a strong crop of freshman, the Milton girl’s realized their goal of a top-10 finish at the state meet. The girl’s took first place team honors at Sweetapple, Ray Miller and in their division at Great American. Other trophy awarding meets included 2nd at Clemson, 3rd at both Fulton County and Coach Wood but the highlight of the season was a close 2nd, almost a win, at Region 6-AAAAA losing only to perennial powerhouse Walton by 6 points. That runner-up spot qualified the team to the state meet where the ladies finished a strong 9th place. Even though the team loses 4 seniors to graduation, the strong group of returning girl’s should keep this team a contender again for a region title and a return trip to the state meet in 2007.
